The Ontario Coalition for Watershed Security
Updates
From our newsletter of November 27, 2025: So much is potentially threatening Ontario’s watershed security. Current bills or recently passed acts amend protection for species at risk, introduce the prospect of special economic zones in which laws and regulations can be suspended, and change how drinking water and sewage can be managed. And through Bill 68 and an Orwellian posting on the Environmental Registry, Ontario wants to amalgamate conservation authorities and direct them under a Provincial Conservation Agency. Submissions and municipal motions are raising numerous alarms and requesting more info, more time, and more consultation.
Regardless of the government’s response, communities will need to become more engaged than ever in integrating land use and watershed planning. Look for our submission on Bill 68 in December and for our public meetings in the new year. September / October: Recruitment of the members of a steering committee is underway, and terms of reference have been approved. We have six members and are looking to add a few more. The current members include Georgian Bay Forever, STORM, The Blue Mountain Watershed Trust, The Grand River Environmental Alliance, The Land Between, and The Simcoe County Greenbelt Alliance.
