Systematic threats to watershed security in Ontario, and especially across South-central Ontario, include changes to the mandate and roles of conservation authorities, the abolition of regional planning, and numerous other provincial actions to facilitate development over sound environmental protection.

In addition, strong mayor powers and the revocation of most public rights to appeal planning decisions to the Ontario Land Tribunal are threatening democratic and legal norms.

By subscribing to our e-newsletter, you become an OHI Watershed Guardian and will be kept informed of our efforts to promote watershed security, based on our three policy goals:

  • The integration of land use and watershed planning at the municipal level;
  • The revitalization of Ontario’s approaches to watershed management; and;
  • A provincial commitment to sustainable development.

In addition, you will be able to participate in campaigns launched by the Coalition of Ontario Watershed Guardians, a key public engagement initiative facilitated by the OHI.
