The Ontario Coalition for Watershed Security
Updates
November: So much is potentially threatening Ontario’s watershed security. Bill 60 has amended protection for species at risk and introduced the prospect of special economic zones in which laws and regulations can be suspended. Bill 56 will change how drinking water is protected. And now Ontario wants to amalgamate conservation authorities and establish a Conservation Authority Agency that needs extensive consultation. Per our newsletter of Nov 3, the establishment of the Ontario Coalition for Watershed Security is proceeding nicely. Look for upcoming regional meetings and a first campaign soon. September / October: Recruitment of the members of a steering committee is underway, and terms of reference have been approved. We have six members and are looking to add a few more.
September 7, 2025: The OHI announces the creation of the Ontario Coalition for Watershed Security. See a one-pager, including the goals, how the coalition will work, a graphic of that, and other key detail such as how to join, here – About the Ontario Coalition for Watershed Security Sept 7.
