2. Upcoming webinar on The Municipal Charter for Watershed Security
1. Addressing Physical Integrity and Watershed Security in the Great Lakes
The OHI and the Great Lakes Ecoregion Network recently collaborated to develop a set of recommendations on this important subject and will move forward to refine them while developing a strategy to increase efforts to protect both physical integrity and watershed security in the Great Lakes region, its economy, and the well-being of our communities. See the recommendations here.
2. Upcoming webinar on The Municipal Charter for Watershed Security
Please join us as the Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition hosts a regional webinar on the Charter. You can view the Charter here and more details below.
Webinar Title: Improving Watershed Security Across Simcoe County
Description: As extensive changes to many environmental safeguards designed to facilitate Ontario’s housing action plan include reductions to the mandate of conservation authorities, the abolition of regional planning, and restrictions on who can file or even be a party to an appeal at the Ontario Land Tribunal, it is more important than ever to ensure that municipal planning is capable of addressing new challenges. Please join us to discuss how we can mobilize and strengthen watershed security across Simcoe County including Greenbelt expansion and strengthening as well as the proposed Municipal Charter for Watershed Security, from the Ontario Headwaters Institute, that recommends that land use and watershed planning be integrated at the municipal level. The Charter and a generic version of a PowerPoint presentation can be seen at https://ontarioheadwaters.ca/watershed-security-project-updates/.
