Far from there being a series of homogenous frameworks for watershed management in Ontario, providing consistent levels of protection to manage our most precious resource, Ontario has a proliferation of varying, unequal, and often overlapping polices and protocols to manage our watersheds. Indeed, the drawing below identifies areas in which six provincial frameworks for watershed management are delivered in just South-central Ontario.
The OHI believes that this proliferation of watershed management frameworks must be updated with a new vision for watershed security, with standardized goals, policies and more equal resources, to ensure equity across the region.
